Finally getting into the requests from my newest post, orz. One more reminder to claim your raffle prizes and submit contest icons~!

Request by [info]experienced

Go from to in Photoshop. Uses Selective Color and Channel Mixer, so not translatable. And be warned that I was sipping caffeine constantly while writing this, so my writing is even more disjointed and hyper than normal xD

Wooo low quality scan ftw xD Oh well, it looks fine enough on this crop.

It's rather blahhh and hard to work with as it is, so let's give it more of a definite colour scheme with a Channel Mixer... adjustment layer~ I used the step 6 settings in this tutorial by [info]oulan, but you can just play around with the sliders instead if you want. After you're done, set the layer to 60% so it doesn't overpower your image.

Better, but not very contrast-y, right? Gosh, I wish there was a word for that xD Er, just duplicate the base on Soft Light, 100% to fix it.

Cool, cool! But now what, you ask? I always seem to turn to a Selective Color... adjustment layer when I ask myself that, so take step 3's settings in this tutorial by [info]hl_upics (settings I'm totally addicted to in case you hadn't noticed lol), and leave it as-is for this:

More saturated and pretty, yeah, but the whole thing is just so darn washed out :| So what else would we use but a EXCLUSION LAYER OF AWESOME!!!!!! to fix it 8) Right, #282828, Exclusion, 100%, yusss! You can see I've also been abusing dark gray as opposed to dark blue exclusion layers these days because... idk, I got sick of the yellow tone it gives me? This just makes it more muted in a way that I can work with different colour schemes than the dark blue/yellow thing. There's a tip for you, try playing with the hue of your Exclusion layer juuuust a tiny bit and see how much of a difference it makes, it's fun (and sometimes horribly garish)! :DDD

Oh goodness I bet you're all sick of my tangents, so moving right along /o/ Lol muted, so take another Soft Light, 100% base duplicate and desaturate it. (that's Image > Adjustments > Desaturate for those of you who haven't heard before)

And now for a #bebebe (hahaha bebe), Color Burn, 100% layer, just because :]

Now we're getting somewhere, yes? I ~*suppose*~ you could stop there if you wanted to have a more natural look, but since I'm insane that way, let's go in a completely different direction! 8D These days, this texture by [info]dusty_memories (and the rest of the set here is like my favourite ever, trufax. So why the heck not put it on Multiply, 100% and duplicate it TWICE for extra effect!!

aklsdjfhhsal hahahahaha I always love it when I get to pull crazy stuff like that :') So let's fix it, yeah? First, take a Hue/Saturation... adjustment layer and move Saturation to 30. It sounds crazy at the time and it probably will just bring more ugly, but hey, you can use the mask attached to the adjustment layer to tone down the parts that bug out on you. If I haven't mentioned this before (I forget), just click on the white box to the left of the slidey-looking one in your layers window and take a soft black brush to erase the bits you don't like. It's not unlike any old layer mask, they just add it on for you already. Those Potatoshop developers are always looking out for us %D

Referencing one of [info]luxrays-bb's awesome tutorials for this step. Use the Selective Color... adjustment layer settings in step 3, no surprise there!

Sweeeet, it's getting much better. But obviously the issue of the overpowering texture remains even though I brought it on myself so back to our tried-and-true desaturated Soft Light, 100% base duplicate! WHO SAW THAT COMING. I DID! *shot*

And one more Selective Color... adjustment layer, as if I couldn't make this tutorial any more non-translatable! This changes the colour scheme entirely so you might need to tone it down for your icon, idk. But yes, these settings in step 4, again by [info]luxrays, are mighty fine! ♥

Almost there, I can feeeeeel the anticipation :') Text time, lol. I made the font Pea Johanna very tiny and with very little line spacing to achieve this effect. It's just some random lyrics, but you can type whatever 'cause no one can read it anyway (gosh I love being able to do that xD) Then I put the text on a slight tilt to match the "P3" at the bottom.

Finally, another Hue/Saturation... adjustment layer with Saturation at 36; again, erasing any bits that show up too bright (in this case it was his hand which turned neon orange). And you're done! :D

Other examples:
(please note that I didn't use the texture duplicates for any of these, just one layer xD)

I encourage you to go play around and show me your finished icons! DOOO IIIIIIT, I wanna see what you guys come up with~

If you like what you see, why not friend ewidentnie for future updates?

Derp! Fantastic tutorial and icon, Mumpo, but sadly, my version of PS lacks Selective Color and Channel Mixer. Thank you for filling it out for me, though! ♥

Aww that sucks, I'm sorry Lita ;___; Maybe playing around with Color Balance and Hue/Saturation... layers would work instead? But of course, you're welcome :3

Oh wow, the colours came out so nicely on your image *A* I forgot to say on the post that images with orange/blue tones seem to work best, so I'm glad you read my mind and picked one, lawl! Love it, thanks for trying it out!

*makes gleeful sounds* Oh, I got lovely results with this. <333

I used a dark blue exclusion layer with this, because the dark gray didn't seem to agree with the image. ;.; BUT. Everything else came out beautifully. :333
